What is a commercial blow moulding machine?
A blow moulding machine makes hollow plastic articles such as bottles, jars, cans, drums and tanks. Plastic is softened and formed into a hot tube, called a parison, or into a small test tube shaped preform. A cooled metal mould closes around it and compressed air inflates the plastic until it takes the shape of the mould. Water channels in the mould cool the part, then the mould opens and the article is released. Stretch machines also push a rod into the preform, so the plastic is drawn in both directions, which suits strong, clear PET bottles. Factories use these machines to make their own packaging or to supply bottles and containers to filling plants.
Commercial and industrial machines for factories that make bottles, jars, cans and tanks are covered here; home-use, hobby and desktop units are not.
How diipl verifies blow moulding machine manufacturers
diipl checks every blow moulding machine manufacturer before a buyer meets them. Every seller is GSTIN verified and capacity audited. IEC and the certifications your product and market need (ISO, CE, REACH, BIS) are confirmed before any meeting; Certificate of Origin and EIC inspection are arranged per shipment where required.
For blow moulding machines, the capacity audit also covers:
- A live trial blow on the buyer's own resin or preform and container drawing, with output counted at the rated cavities and wall thickness checked on cut samples
- How the extruder, die head and clamp are built or sourced, with the screw, barrel, heaters and parison control run together under power
- The mould clamp and platens: squareness when closed, hold under blowing load, and alignment of the blow pins or stretch rods
- The air and cooling circuits: compressor and chiller sizing against the stated output, with the air lines pressure tested and checked for leaks before dispatch
- The control panel: wiring to drawing, working emergency stops on both sides of the mould, interlocked guards and guarding of hot parts, tested in front of the auditor
We match your requirement to a manufacturer that has passed these checks and arrange a direct meeting.
Types of blow moulding machines we cover
Indian blow moulding machine manufacturers on the diipl bench build these commercial and industrial types.
| Type | Typical buyers |
|---|---|
| Extrusion blow moulding machine, single or double station | Makers of shampoo, detergent, dairy and pharmaceutical bottles |
| Accumulator-head blow moulding machine | Makers of drums, water tanks, fuel tanks and bulk containers |
| Injection blow moulding machine | Makers of small pharmaceutical and single serve bottles |
| Single-stage injection stretch blow moulding machine | Makers of cosmetic, medicine, detergent and sauce bottles |
| Semi-automatic PET stretch blow moulding machine | Makers of mineral water jars and small PET bottles |
| Automatic PET stretch blow moulding machine | Bottled water, juice, soft drink and syrup bottlers |
Extrusion blow moulding machine, single or double station
An extruder melts the resin and forms a hot tube, a cooled mould closes on it and air blows it into shape. One Indian maker lists continuous-parison machines for containers from 1 ml to 5 litres, in single-station and double-station versions. Choose it for HDPE and PP bottles such as shampoo, detergent and dairy packs.
Accumulator-head blow moulding machine
Melt is stored in a head and a hydraulic ram pushes out a large tube quickly, so the weight of the tube has less effect on it before the mould closes. It makes large and heavy containers such as drums, water storage tanks and fuel tanks. One Indian maker lists accumulator machines for containers from 10 litres to 2000 litres. Choose it when the container is large or heavy.
Injection blow moulding machine
A preform is injection moulded onto a core pin, the pin turns to a blow station where air inflates it, and the finished bottle is stripped off the pin, all on one machine. It is the least used of the three main routes and is typically used for small medical and single serve bottles. Moulds commonly hold three to sixteen cavities. Choose it for small bottles, since the preform is moulded with its neck already formed.
Single-stage injection stretch blow moulding machine
One machine moulds the preform and then stretch blows the bottle. A three-station design skips the reheat step by using heat left in the preform. One maker's range lists two to fourteen cavities and clamping forces from 60 to 220 tons, for PET, PP, PC and PES. Choose it for cosmetic, medicine, detergent and sauce bottles.
Semi-automatic PET stretch blow moulding machine
Ready-made preforms are heated in an oven, stretched and blown into PET bottles or jars. One Indian maker lists semi-automatic machines that combine pneumatic and hydro-pneumatic technology, for bottles from 100 ml to 2 litres at about 800 to 2200 bottles per hour, and a single-cavity machine for 20 litre jars at 75 per hour. Choose it for water jars and for plants that need modest hourly output.
Automatic PET stretch blow moulding machine
The fully automatic class of PET stretch blow machines. One Indian maker lists pneumatically operated models for bottles from 30 ml to about 1 litre at about 1200 to 2800 bottles per hour. The bottles suit water, juice, warm fill, carbonated soft drinks, syrup, liquor and solid food. Choose it when a plant wants steady output on a fixed range of bottle sizes.
What to specify when buying a blow moulding machine
A clear blow moulding machine specification gets you comparable offers and a faster meeting. Share these points with diipl and we match them to the right manufacturer.
| What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Resin and process route | Name the resin first. Extrusion machines handle HDPE, LDPE and PP, while stretch machines blow PET preforms. The resin and the container decide the machine type before size or output. |
| Container volume range and neck finish | State the smallest and largest container and the neck finish. One Indian maker lists continuous-parison machines up to 5 litres and accumulator machines from 10 litres, so one machine rarely covers every size. |
| Cavities and clamping force of stretch machines | Output rises with the number of cavities. One single-stage stretch range lists two to fourteen cavities and clamping forces from 60 to 220 tons. Ask which cavity count the stated output assumes. |
| Rated output of stretch blow machines | Ask for bottles per hour proved on your own bottle. One Indian maker's semi-automatic sheets list about 800 to 2200 per hour for 100 ml to 2 litre bottles and 75 per hour for a 20 litre jar. |
| Extrusion output, dry cycle, air and cooling | Output depends on melt delivered and cycle speed. One extrusion sheet lists 75 or 90 kg per hour by screw size, a 5.5 second dry cycle, 6 to 8 kg/cm2 air and 100 litres a minute of cooling water. |
| Clamping force and mould size (extrusion) | Clamping force keeps the mould shut against blowing pressure and grows with container size. One small extrusion machine lists 90 kN with moulds up to 450 mm wide. |
| Die head and wall thickness control | The tube's own weight drags on it, so wall thickness is hard to hold on continuous extrusion. Accumulator and reciprocating-screw heads push the tube out quickly and allow finer control through a parison programmer. Ask for a cut sample. |
| Single or multi-layer capability | Multi-layer co-extrusion builds the wall from several layers, for barrier resins or a recycled core. One Indian maker lists 2, 3 and 5 layer set-ups. State how many layers and which resins your product needs. |
| Blowing air, compressor and chiller (stretch) | Stretch machines need compressed air and chilled water. One sheet lists blowing air at 25 kg/cm2, a 15 kW compressor and a 2 TR chiller. Ask whether they come with the machine or your site must supply them. |
| Preform heating oven (two-stage stretch machines) | Two-stage stretch machines reheat preforms in an oven before stretching. Heater load is listed from 9 kW on a two-cavity sheet to 33 kW on a 20 litre jar sheet. Ask how even the heating is. |
| Power supply, drives and control panel | State your plant voltage, phases and frequency. One extrusion sheet lists supply from 220 to 440 volts at 50 or 60 hertz, three phase, with servo drives and a touch screen PLC. Ask for panel drawings and test records. |
| Trimming, deflashing and leak testing | Decide what comes with the machine. One sheet lists a parison controller, auto deflasher, leakage detector and in-mould labelling as options. Ask what trimming is done on the machine and what is left to your staff. |
| Guarding and emergency stops | Guidance asks for interlocked guards on the mould area, emergency stops on both sides of the mould, and guards or insulation for hot parts above 80 degrees Celsius. Ask to see each one fitted and tested. |
| Output by can size (jerry can machines) | Cans per hour fall as can size grows. One jerry can table lists HDPE output of 110 to 300 kg per hour, with 160 to 180 cans an hour at 5 litres and 100 to 120 at 30 litres. |

HSN code and ITC-HS code for blow moulding machines
Blow moulding machines are classified under ITC-HS 84773000 (blow moulding machines), within HS subheading 847730 (machinery; blow moulding machines, for working rubber or plastics or for the manufacture of products from these materials). The 6-digit subheading is the same in every country that uses the Harmonized System; the 8-digit ITC-HS line is the one India files.
In India the GST HSN code and the export ITC-HS code come from the same nomenclature. A GST invoice needs only the first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover; the export shipping bill carries the full 8-digit ITC-HS line. The classification is shown here; the applicable GST rate is not. Official source.

Your opportunity
Indian blow moulding machine makers already ship this line abroad. diipl finds the markets where your machine can win and generates the verified buyers there.
A classification is a fact any lookup can give you. The correct code still does not tell you which countries are buying blow moulding machines right now, what duty each of them charges on the Indian line, or whether that demand is growing or fading. Those answers come from trade data, not from a code table, and they decide whether a market is worth entering. diipl's free Market Research Report answers them for your machine.

Buying a blow moulding machine in India
- The GST tax invoice should name the machine, the control panel and every accessory on its own line, and carry the maker's own GSTIN.
- Put installation, commissioning and a trial blowing run on your own container into the contract, and sign off the machine only after the trial.
- Settle who supplies the mould and, for stretch machines, the preforms. Each container design needs its own mould, and preforms must match the neck finish.
- Prepare the utilities before delivery: a compressor, a chiller or cooling water, the three phase power connection, and a foundation or level floor as the maker's drawing shows.
- Book operator and setter training. A government plastics training institute in India runs blow moulding operator courses, and the maker should still train your own team on the machine.
- Agree a spares list for wearing parts such as screw and barrel, heater bands, cutting knives, blow pins, stretch rods and seals, and a written service response time.
Buying from Indian blow moulding machine exporters
- Buyers in the European Union should ask for CE marking, a declaration of conformity and user instructions with the machine. Ask which blow moulding safety standard the design follows and how the mould area is guarded.
- For North America, ask which blow molding machine safety standard the maker used and for the written risk assessment, since that standard builds on a risk assessment of the machine.
- Tell the maker your plant's voltage, number of phases and frequency, because heaters, drives and the panel are built for one supply. For PET stretch machines, also state the compressed air pressure and chilled water your site can supply.
- Send the container drawing, neck finish and resin or preform specification early. The moulds must match your container, and the maker should show sample containers blown on your own material before dispatch.
- Agree the Incoterm in writing. If your import rules call for a Certificate of Origin, settle who prepares it. Pack the extruder, moulds, control cabinet, compressor and chiller as separate, marked packages.
- Buy a kit of wearing parts along with the machine, and agree remote fault checks by video call and a commissioning visit plan, so a fault in the heaters, drives or air lines can be looked at without a trip.

Blow Moulding Machine: frequently asked questions
Who makes blow moulding machines in India?
diipl does not publish manufacturer names. Tell diipl the container, resin, size range and output you need. diipl then matches a manufacturer that has passed GSTIN verification and a capacity audit, confirms its Importer Exporter Code and the certifications your market needs, and arranges a direct meeting. For this machine the audit includes a trial blowing run on your container and a check of how the clamp, extruder and air circuit are built and tested.
What should I specify when buying a commercial blow moulding machine?
Start with the resin and the route: extrusion blow, injection blow, or stretch blow from preforms. Then give the container volume range, neck finish, cavity count and hourly output. For extrusion machines add clamping force, mould size, head type and layers. Add the blowing air, cooling water and power your site has, and the trimming you want on the machine, and ask for a trial blow on your own container.
Which standards or certifications apply to blow moulding machines?
In India, IS 16504 (Part 1):2019 gives general requirements for the electrical equipment of machines, such as the control panel and wiring, and is identical with IEC 60204-1:2016. For the European Union, EN 422:2009 is the safety standard written for blow moulding machines, used with CE marking. In North America, ANSI/SPI B151.31-2014 covers blow molding machines. Ask the maker which one the design follows and for the test records.
What is the HSN code for blow moulding machines?
Blow Moulding Machines are classified under ITC-HS 84773000 (blow moulding machines), within HS subheading 847730. The export shipping bill carries this full 8-digit line; a GST invoice needs only its first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover. Confirm the 8-digit line against your exact machine before you file.
Can Indian manufacturers export blow moulding machines?
Yes. One Indian maker of extrusion, injection blow and stretch blow machines lists export markets in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Eastern Europe. The machine must meet the rules of the importing region, so ask for the safety standard and conformity papers your market expects before you order. Send the container drawing and resin early, because the moulds are made to the buyer's container.
Which industries buy blow moulding machines?
Bottlers, packers and container makers buy them. Common users are packaged water and beverage bottlers, edible oil, dairy and lubricant packers, chemical and agrochemical companies filling jerry cans and drums, detergent and personal care brands, pharmaceutical packagers, and makers of water tanks, bulk containers and automotive tanks and ducts.
I manufacture blow moulding machines. How do I find verified buyers?
diipl studies which bottlers, packers and container makers need your kind of machine, for example extrusion machines for HDPE cans or stretch machines for PET jars, and in which regions. It runs outreach, then checks each buyer for a real requirement, the means to pay, the authority to sign and a buying date, before arranging a direct meeting with you. Your name and contact details are never published.
Should I buy an extrusion or a stretch blow moulding machine?
It depends on the resin and the container. Extrusion machines melt HDPE, LDPE or PP into a hot tube and suit bottles, cans and large hollow parts. Stretch machines blow PET preforms and give clear, lightweight bottles. Send the maker your container drawing and resin before you choose.
What air, water and power does a PET stretch blow moulding machine need?
One Indian maker's semi-automatic sheet for a two-cavity model lists three phase 415 volt power, blowing air at 25 kg/cm2, working air at 8 kg/cm2, a 15 kW compressor and a 2 TR chiller. A 20 litre jar model lists a 3 TR chiller and an extra low-pressure compressor. Confirm these on the sheet for your own model.
When do I need an accumulator-head machine?
Makers use accumulator heads for large or heavy containers such as narrow-mouth drums, water storage tanks, fuel tanks and large chemical containers. The head stores melt and a hydraulic ram pushes out a large tube quickly, so the weight of the tube has less effect before the mould closes. Ask the maker for the largest and smallest container the machine is rated for.
How long does it take to train a blow moulding machine operator?
A government plastics training institute lists a Machine Operator Assistant course in blow moulding of 480 hours, open from eighth standard, and a Machine Operator course in plastic blow moulding of 960 hours, open from eighth or tenth standard. The maker should still train your team on your own machine and mould.
