What is a commercial band saw machine?
A metal cutting band saw runs a continuous toothed band over wheels. The blade cuts as it moves, spreading the load over many teeth. On a horizontal machine the bar, pipe or section is clamped in a vise and the saw frame comes down through it, which suits cutting stock to length. On a vertical machine the blade stays in place and the work is moved across a table, which suits plate and shaped cuts. Larger machines add hydraulic clamping, a powered length feed and a touch screen. A power hacksaw differs: a straight blade moves back and forth and usually lifts clear on the return stroke. Coolant cools the blade, and a brush or conveyor clears the chips.
This page covers commercial and industrial band saw machines and power hacksaws that cut metal; wood and meat band saws, hand-held portable saws and hobby bench saws are not covered.
How diipl verifies band saw machine manufacturers
diipl checks every band saw machine manufacturer before a buyer meets them. Every seller is GSTIN verified and capacity audited. IEC and the certifications your product and market need (ISO, CE, REACH, BIS) are confirmed before any meeting; Certificate of Origin and EIC inspection are arranged per shipment where required.
For band saw machines, the capacity audit also covers:
- A live cut on bar, pipe or section like yours at the largest size offered, with the squareness and straightness of the cut face measured and recorded
- The saw frame, columns and slideways checked for wear and rigidity, with the blade guides and the blade tension system named in the offer fitted and working
- On an automatic machine, a run of many pieces from a stored program, with the first and the last piece measured for length and the shortest remnant the machine can leave tested
- The hydraulic unit, vise, feed cylinder and tension system run at rated pressure without leaks, and the blade breakage stop and the end of cut stop tried by hand
- In-house fabrication and machining of the base, frame and arm, with the guards, interlocks, emergency stop, electrical panel, coolant pump and chip brush or conveyor inspected and working
We match your requirement to a manufacturer that has passed these checks and arrange a direct meeting.
Types of band saw machines we cover
Indian band saw machine manufacturers on the diipl bench build these commercial and industrial types.
| Type | Typical buyers |
|---|---|
| Horizontal band saw, manual or semi-automatic | Workshops, tool rooms, maintenance departments, metal fabricators, machine shops and the construction industry |
| Automatic horizontal band saw with programmed length feed | Workshops and production plants that saw solid bar, tube and profile in series |
| Double-column band saw, semi-automatic | Heavy industry, construction plants, steel companies and machining centres |
| Vertical band saw for plate blanks, operator-fed | Machine shops that cut plate blanks before milling, drilling or turning |
| Long-cut vertical band saw for plate and blocks, semi-automatic | Shops that cut rolled blocks and rolled plates into pieces of different cross section |
| Power hacksaw | Workshops, tool rooms and industrial facilities cutting bar and tube |
Horizontal band saw, manual or semi-automatic
The bar is held in a vise and the saw frame comes down through it. One maker's range runs from fully manual to semi-automatic. Round capacity runs from 250 mm to 460 mm, with fixed blade speeds on the smaller models and variable speed from 50 to 300 feet per minute on the larger ones. The models marked SA add a shuttle vice and cut mitres on both sides without moving the bar. Choose it for workshop cut-off work.
Automatic horizontal band saw with programmed length feed
Built for series cutting of solid bar, tube and profile. One maker's 460 mm model is programmed on a touch screen, feeds the bar with a servo drive up to 500 mm in a single feed or 9999 mm in multiple feeds, clamps the stock hydraulically and, on stock with a true surface, leaves a shortest remnant of 35 mm in automatic mode. Cutting speed runs from 12 to 150 m/min. Choose it for repeat lengths in volume.
Double-column band saw, semi-automatic
The saw head is guided on two columns. One maker's semi-automatic model takes round stock up to 1200 mm in diameter, runs a bimetal blade of 11200 x 67 x 1.6 mm at 15 to 80 m/min, stops automatically if the blade breaks and weighs 8800 kg. The maker names the rigid two-column frame as the way it removes vibration and improves accuracy. Choose it for very large bars, pipes and steel profiles.
Vertical band saw for plate blanks, operator-fed
The blade runs in a vertical plane and the work rests on a table. The operator pushes the stock into the blade, and a slow feed is preferred to a fast one because a fast feed can break the blade. It cuts plate to an approximate size, a blank, which is then finished on a mill, drill or lathe. Bar can be cut on it, but a horizontal saw is preferred for bar. Some carry a built-in blade welder.
Long-cut vertical band saw for plate and blocks, semi-automatic
A larger vertical machine for long cuts through rolled blocks and rolled plates. One maker's semi-automatic model cuts to a height of 600 mm and a length of 1260 mm, runs a 5450 mm blade at 12 to 120 m/min, clamps the blade hydraulically with automatic shut-off if it breaks, and has a movable material table. Choose it to cut rolled blocks and plates into smaller pieces.
Power hacksaw
A straight blade moves back and forth while the frame is fed down onto bar held in a vise. One maker lists four models with round capacity of 250 to 500 mm at 90 degrees but only 80 to 160 mm at 45 degrees, stroke rates from 39 to 126 per minute on the smallest, an adjustable downfeed and a cut-out at the end of the cut. Choose it for plain bar and tube cutting in workshops.
What to specify when buying a band saw machine
A clear band saw machine specification gets you comparable offers and a faster meeting. Share these points with diipl and we match them to the right manufacturer.
| What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Largest round and rectangular section at 90 degrees | Capacity is listed per shape and per angle. One automatic twin-column model lists 360 mm round and 460 x 360 mm flat at 90 degrees. Give your largest bar, pipe and section, and ask for that exact shape. |
| Mitre range and capacity at each angle | The same model cuts 45 degrees one way and 60 the other: round capacity is 360 mm at 45 degrees and 250 mm at 60. Automatic mode cannot cut flat stock under 20 mm high or angles in round bar. |
| Blade length, width, thickness and cutting material | A wider band is more stable, and a thicker one resists twisting and keeps the cut straighter. One blade maker shows 54 mm wide blades in 1.60, 1.30 and 1.10 mm thickness. Put blade size and type in the offer. |
| Tooth pitch and tooth form for your sections | Blade makers choose tooth pitch from the length of blade in contact with the work and from the material, and they also make variable-pitch blades. Ask which blade is supplied for your thinnest and your thickest section. |
| Blade speed range and whether it is variable | Ask for the full speed range and tell the maker your hardest grade. One automatic model sold for tool steels and difficult materials such as titanium lists 30 to 300 m/min, with an optional range of 8 to 80 m/min. |
| Control level and feed drive | Small horizontal saws let the frame fall under its own weight, slowed by a spring or damper; industrial models usually control the descent with a hydraulic cylinder. Write down who loads, positions and starts each cut. |
| Length feed per stroke, multiple feed and shortest remnant | They set the longest piece an automatic saw feeds and the offcut. One model lists a 500 mm single feed, 9999 mm multiple feed and a 35 mm shortest remnant on true-surface stock. Give your shortest and longest piece. |
| Vise type and clamping | One semi-automatic saw lists a horizontal clamping vise on both sides of the blade and hydraulic clamping with clamping pressure reduction. Ask how the vise holds tube and profile, and whether a shuttle vise or a bundle clamp is offered. |
| Blade clamping, guides and breakage stop | Look for hydraulic blade clamping, carbide guides and a stop if the blade breaks. One semi-automatic vertical saw lists pretensioned carbide glide guides with quick release and electrically monitored hydraulic clamping with automatic shut-off on breakage. |
| Chip removal and floor space | A chip brush or conveyor clears chips from the cut. One vertical saw is 1950 mm wide, or 2520 mm wide with its optional chip conveyor. Ask for the layout drawing with every attachment, and for the coolant arrangement. |
| Motor power and electrical supply | Motors in one range of horizontal saws run from 1.5 to 3.5 kW, and all its models run on 415 V, three phase, 50 Hz. Give your site supply and ask for the drive and panel drawings. |
| Weight, footprint and table load | One semi-automatic vertical saw weighs 3400 kg, takes a table load of up to 2000 kg and is 3110 mm long and 3050 mm high. Ask for the weight, footprint and foundation drawing, and plan the unloading. |
| Power hacksaw: strokes per minute and capacity at 45 degrees | A hacksaw cuts less at an angle than straight. One range lists 250 mm round at 90 degrees but 80 mm at 45 degrees on its smallest model, at 39 to 126 strokes per minute. Ask for both figures. |
| Guards, interlocks, emergency stop and noise data | The cold-metal sawing safety standard deals with the hazards of these machines but has no full noise test code and leaves out fire and explosion. Ask what guards and interlocks come fitted, and for noise data. |

HSN code and ITC-HS code for band saw machines
The code for band saw machines depends on whether the saw is a horizontal band saw, a vertical band saw or a power hacksaw. Choose the line that matches your machine:
- 84615011 (band saw, horizontal) when the saw is a horizontal band saw, with the bar held in a vise and the saw frame coming down through it.
- 84615012 (band saw, vertical) when the saw is a vertical band saw, with the blade running in an upright plane and the plate fed into it.
- 84615015 (hack saw) when the saw is a power hacksaw, with a straight blade moving back and forth.
A band saw cuts metal bar, tube and sections with a continuous toothed blade, and the tariff gives sawing machines for metal one subheading whatever the feed or the control fitted. The tariff then lists the horizontal band saw, the vertical band saw and the hacksaw as separate lines, so the line depends on which of the three the machine is.
In India the GST HSN code and the export ITC-HS code come from the same nomenclature. A GST invoice needs only the first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover; the export shipping bill carries the full 8-digit ITC-HS line. The classification is shown here; the applicable GST rate is not. Official source.

A classification is a fact any lookup can give you. The correct code still does not tell you which countries are buying band saw machines right now, what duty each of them charges on the Indian line, or whether that demand is growing or fading. Those answers come from trade data, not from a code table, and they decide whether a market is worth entering. diipl's free Market Research Report answers them for your machine.

Buying a band saw machine in India
- Ask the GST invoice to name the machine type, control level and model, and to list what comes with it: the first blade, spare guide inserts, the vise, the coolant system and any roller table or chip conveyor, so everything you paid for is on paper.
- Plan the floor before the machine arrives. Heavy and automatic saws need a level base, space for the roller table and chip conveyor, a hydraulic oil fill and a three phase supply, so ask for the foundation and layout drawing.
- Put installation, commissioning and a trial cut on your own stock into the contract, and do not sign off until the cut is square and the stop or length feed repeats.
- Book operator training on site: changing and tensioning a blade, choosing blade speed and feed for each grade, using the vise, and on automatic machines entering cut lengths and quantities.
- Agree how blades and wear parts reach you. Note the blade length, width and thickness, keep spare blades and guide inserts in stock, and agree a service response time and a supply of hydraulic seals and hoses.
- Plan delivery and placing: the weight, unloading by crane or forklift, and the route into your shop. Large saws are heavy and long, so ask for the weight and packing drawing before you order.
Buying from Indian band saw machine exporters
- For the European Union, CE marking follows testing and the conformity procedure. The higher-risk list in the machinery regulation names band saws for wood and meat, not for metal, so ask for the declaration of conformity and the instructions for use, and ask which safety standard for cold-metal sawing machines the design follows.
- For North America, ask your safety team whether it works to the ANSI safety standard for metal sawing machines, and ask the maker to show how the guards and interlocks meet it.
- State your site voltage, phases and frequency in words so the saw motor, hydraulic pump motor and control panel are built to match, and ask for the panel drawings.
- Send the sections and grades you cut before the order, because blade type, speed range and clamping are chosen from them. Ask for a witnessed cutting trial by video or in person before dispatch, and for the blade size in the offer so you can source blades locally.
- On an automatic machine, ask for the touch screen language, a backup of the stored cutting programs and remote help from the maker.
- Agree the Incoterm and who unloads the machine. Ask for a packing list that shows the saw head, columns, hydraulic unit, roller table and chip conveyor crate by crate, and a Certificate of Origin if your import rules ask for one.
Standards and certifications for band saw machines
Band Saw Machines for each market must meet that market's rules. diipl confirms the certifications your market needs before any meeting. Each requirement below links to its official source.
| Indian standard or rule | What it covers | Official source |

| Export requirement | Region | What it means | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Higher-risk machinery list in Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, Annex I | European Union | Part B of Annex I names band-saws with manual loading or unloading for working wood and meat. Band saws for metal are not named. Ask the maker for the declaration of conformity, the instructions for use and the safety standard the design follows. | View source |
| EN ISO 16093:2017 (ISO 16093:2017) safety of sawing machines for cold metal | European Union | Covers sawing machines whose main use is sawing cold metal, ferrous or non-ferrous. A standards body page links the European version to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. It has no full noise test code and no rules for fire and explosion, so ask for noise data. | View source |
| ANSI B11.10 Safety Requirements for Metal Sawing Machines | North America | Covers stationary machine tools that use a saw blade to cut off or change the shape of a workpiece, with built-in part handling and chip handling. It excludes woodworking, stonecutting, food-processing, abrasive and portable hand-held saws. The standards body lists the 2003 edition and notes it is under revision. | View source |

Band Saw Machine: frequently asked questions
Who makes band saw machines in India?
diipl does not publish maker names. Tell diipl the largest bar, pipe or section you cut, the grades, and whether you want manual, semi-automatic or automatic operation. The maker we introduce has passed GSTIN verification and a factory audit that includes a live cut on stock like yours, with a look at the frame, guides, blade tension, hydraulics and guards. We also confirm its Importer Exporter Code and the certificates your market asks for, then fix a direct meeting.
Which cutting capacity, blade speed and feed should I ask for?
Start from your largest bar, pipe and section at 90 degrees and at every angle you cut, and the hardest grade you saw. Capacity falls at angles: one automatic twin-column model lists 360 mm round at 90 degrees and 250 mm at 60 degrees. Then ask for the blade speed range, the feed drive, the clamping and the shortest piece the saw can leave, and have the maker prove them in a trial cut.
Which standards or certifications apply to band saw machines?
In India the Indian Standard for cold-metal sawing machines is IS 17254:2019, identical to ISO 16093:2017 under dual numbering. In Europe the same text is EN ISO 16093:2017, and North American buyers may ask about ANSI B11.10. Ask the maker which of these the design follows and for the matching test or conformity papers.
What is the HSN code for band saw machines?
The code for band saw machines depends on whether the saw is a horizontal band saw, a vertical band saw or a power hacksaw: 84615011 when the saw is a horizontal band saw, with the bar held in a vise and the saw frame coming down through it; 84615012 when the saw is a vertical band saw, with the blade running in an upright plane and the plate fed into it; 84615015 when the saw is a power hacksaw, with a straight blade moving back and forth. The export shipping bill carries the full 8-digit line and a GST invoice its first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover, so confirm the line for your exact machine before you file. The HS code finder lists every 8-digit line.
Can Indian manufacturers export band saw machines?
Yes, if the machine meets the buyer's region. European buyers look for CE marking, which is affixed only after testing and the conformity procedure, with a declaration of conformity and instructions for use. North American buyers may ask about the metal sawing safety standard. It also helps to offer a match to the buyer's voltage and frequency, a blade and spares list, a witnessed cutting trial and remote help with the controller.
Which industries buy band saw machines?
Steel traders and stockists, metal fabricators, general engineering workshops, machine shops and tool rooms, plant maintenance departments, the construction industry, heavy engineering and steel companies, and machining centres all buy them. The saw follows the work: manual or semi-automatic horizontal saws for workshop cut-off, automatic saws for series cutting, and double-column saws for very large sections.
I manufacture band saw machines. How do I find verified buyers?
diipl first sorts demand by the kind of saw, because a stockist cutting many pieces to one length, a workshop doing cut-off and a heavy engineering plant sawing very large sections need different machines. It then reaches those buyer groups and regions, speaks to each buyer about what it cuts, who signs off and when it will buy, and sets up the meeting with you. We keep your name and contact details private; they are not shown on this site.
Should I buy a horizontal or a vertical band saw?
For bar, pipe and sections cut to length, a horizontal saw is the usual choice: the stock stays in the vise while the saw frame comes down through it. A vertical saw suits plate. It cuts blanks to an approximate size before milling, drilling or turning, and one university workshop guide says the horizontal saw is preferred for bar stock. Tell the maker your stock and the shapes you cut.
Band saw or power hacksaw: which should I choose?
A power hacksaw moves a straight blade back and forth and usually lifts it on the return stroke so the teeth do not drag back across the work. A band saw cuts continuously. One general reference notes that power hacksaws are less common in metalworking than they once were, because band saws and cold saws have mostly replaced them. Tell the maker your daily volume and largest section and ask which suits.
How do I choose the tooth pitch and width of the blade?
Blade makers choose tooth pitch from the length of blade in contact with the work and from the material. A wider blade is more stable. On a horizontal saw follow the saw maker's blade specification, while a vertical saw allows more variation in width, and in contour cutting the smallest radius you cut sets the widest blade. Ask the saw maker for a blade chart for your sections.
Does a double-column band saw give a better cut than a single arm?
One maker names the rigid two-column design as the way it removes vibration and improves accuracy, and sells it for very large sections: its semi-automatic model takes round stock up to 1200 mm and weighs 8800 kg, so it needs a proper base. Ask for a trial cut at your largest section and have the squareness and straightness of the cut face measured.
