What is a commercial CNC router machine?
A CNC router machine is a computer controlled cutting machine. A spindle that turns a cutter travels over a flat table in three directions, following a program made from a drawing. The sheet or block is held on the table, often by suction through a vacuum table or by T-slot clamps, so the cutter can profile, groove, drill, engrave and carve it. An automatic tool changer swaps cutters during the program, and extra axes add rotary and three-dimensional carving. Furniture makers cut and drill board parts, sign makers cut acrylic and aluminium composite panel, and stone workshops use a router with a water-cooled spindle and diamond tools. Every machine covered here is numerically controlled, not hand fed.
Commercial and industrial CNC routers for furniture, signage, panel, plastics and stone work are covered here; hobby, desktop and home-workshop machines are not.
How diipl verifies CNC router machine manufacturers
diipl checks every CNC router machine manufacturer before a buyer meets them. Every seller is GSTIN verified and capacity audited. IEC and the certifications your product and market need (ISO, CE, REACH, BIS) are confirmed before any meeting; Certificate of Origin and EIC inspection are arranged per shipment where required.
For CNC router machines, the capacity audit also covers:
- A test cut on the buyer's own material and part at the rated feed, with the finished part measured against the drawing
- The gantry, rails and drives moving under load with no play, and the table surface checked for flatness
- A vacuum hold-down test on a full board and on a small part, with the pump running and the gauge read
- The tool changer cycling through every position in a row without a fault, and the tool length sensor measuring each tool
- Frame fabrication and assembly on the factory floor, with spindle, drive and controller serial plates visible
We match your requirement to a manufacturer that has passed these checks and arrange a direct meeting.
Types of CNC router machines we cover
Indian CNC router machine manufacturers on the diipl bench build these commercial and industrial types.
| Type | Typical buyers |
|---|---|
| Three-axis flatbed CNC router | Sign makers, carving and craft workshops, joinery shops and small panel furniture units |
| CNC router with automatic tool changer (ATC) | Kitchen, wardrobe and office furniture factories and joinery shops |
| Nesting CNC router with auto load and unload | Volume cabinet, kitchen and wardrobe makers |
| Two-spindle router for signage and composite panels | Signage, cladding and interior fit-out fabricators |
| Rotary-axis CNC router for round and carved work | Furniture-leg, pillar, staircase and wood-carving workshops |
| Stone CNC router | Stone and marble workshops |
Three-axis flatbed CNC router
A numerically controlled spindle moves in three directions over a fixed flat table, working from a drawing file. Table sizes commonly offered are 1300 by 2500 mm (roughly four by eight foot), 1500 by 3000 mm (roughly five by ten foot) and 2000 by 4000 mm. Cutters are changed by hand unless a tool changer is fitted, so it suits jobs that use only a few tools. Choose it for signs, carving, simple panel cutting and joinery.
CNC router with automatic tool changer (ATC)
An automatic tool changer swaps tools during the program, so one job can use many cutters without the operator stopping to change them. Makers offer two magazine styles: a linear rack that typically holds 6 to 12 tools, and a disc (carousel) that typically holds 8 to 16 or more. One maker states a change takes 0.8 to 3 seconds, depending on the magazine. Choose it for furniture and panel work where each part needs several tools.
Nesting CNC router with auto load and unload
A nesting router cuts the parts of a job out of whole boards held flat by vacuum. Cells add a lift table that loads boards, an automatic labelling system and an offload table. One maker's cell uses a 12 HP spindle running 3,000 to 24,000 rpm, a 10-position rotary tool changer and table sizes that include 5 by 10 feet and 5 by 12 feet. Choose it for production of cabinets, closets and custom furniture.
Two-spindle router for signage and composite panels
Two spindles are fitted on one machine, so it carries two tools at once. One maker's composite-panel series has two spindles as standard, and the same maker offers spindles from 4.5 to 16 kW, air or water cooled, with a vacuum table to hold the sheet. The series is listed for cutting, drilling and V-grooving aluminium composite panel used for architectural cladding, signage and interiors. Choose it for sign shops and cladding fabricators.
Rotary-axis CNC router for round and carved work
A rotary axis turns the workpiece while the cutter works, so round parts need no hand repositioning. One maker lists it for chair legs, table legs, columns and stair handrails in solid wood, MDF, plywood, acrylic and foam, and notes that such machines typically need CAD/CAM software that supports rotary axis toolpaths. Choose it for carved legs, pillars, rails and decorative pieces.
Stone CNC router
A stone router cuts, drills, engraves, profiles and carves natural and engineered stone such as granite, marble, quartz and limestone, using a water-cooled spindle and diamond tools. One maker lists positioning accuracy of plus or minus 0.03 mm and table sizes of 1300 by 2500 mm, 1500 by 3000 mm and 2000 by 3000 mm, and says most stone routers handle 20 to 100 mm of thickness. Choose it for engraving, profiling and relief work in stone.
What to specify when buying a CNC router machine
A clear CNC router machine specification gets you comparable offers and a faster meeting. Share these points with diipl and we match them to the right manufacturer.
| What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Table size and Z travel | Give the biggest board or block and its height. One maker's panel router has a 1500 by 3000 mm table with 200 mm of Z travel as standard, with options up to 2000 by 4000 mm and 600 mm. |
| Spindle power, speed range and cooling | Ask for kilowatts, speed range, tool holder and air or water cooling. One panel router lists a 9 kW ATC spindle with an ISO30 holder and ER32 collets, running 6,000 to 24,000 rpm. |
| Tool changer type and tool count | Count the tools one job uses. A linear rack typically holds 6 to 12 tools and a disc magazine typically 8 to 16 or more, so match the magazine to your longest tool list. |
| Vacuum pump airflow and zones | Ask for pump type, airflow and zoning. One pump maker estimates 5.5 cubic feet per minute for each square foot of spoilboard table, or 176 cubic feet per minute for a table of four by eight feet. |
| Axis drive, guides and motors | Ask whether the axes use servo or stepper motors, and which ball screws and linear guides are fitted. These set holding accuracy under load and decide the wear parts you will replace. |
| Positioning accuracy and a measured test part | Ask for repositioning and working accuracy, and for a measured test part. One panel router lists repositioning accuracy of plus or minus 0.03 mm and working accuracy of plus or minus 0.07 mm. |
| Travel speed and working feed | Cycle time depends on both. One panel router lists a travel speed of 40 m/min and a working feed of 0 to 25 m/min. Ask what feed the maker proves on your own material. |
| Controller, CAM software and file formats | Ask which controller is fitted and whether it runs G-code from your CAM and nesting software. Ask who supplies the post-processor and the licences, and whether updates are included. |
| Drilling block for panel furniture | For cabinet doors and panels ask about a drilling block. One maker lists nine vertical drill bits with remote-control solenoid valves and a single connection. Confirm bit count, spacing and drilling depth for your hinge and fitting patterns. |
| Loading, unloading and part labelling | Ask how boards are loaded and finished parts removed. One maker's cell uses a 6000 lb automatic lift table for loading, a steel offload table and an automatic labelling system. |
| Dust hood and extractor rating | Ask for a dust hood at the spindle and the extractor rating. One maker offers a dust collection option of 3, 5.5 or 7.5 kW including dust hood and pipe. Plan the extractor's power supply too. |
| Power and compressed air supply | Match the nameplate to your supply. One maker lists 380 V three-phase at 50 or 60 Hz, or 220 V single or three-phase, and a working air pressure of 0.8 MPa. |
| Materials and thickness to be cut | Name each material and its thickness. The safety standard for numerically controlled boring and routing machines lists solid wood, wood-like materials, gypsum boards, composite materials and aluminium light alloy plates up to 10 mm thick. |
| Safety design standard and guarding | Ask which standard the guarding and emergency stops follow. IS 18057 (Part 3) is the Indian text for numerically controlled boring and routing machines for woodworking. Ask how people are kept clear of the moving gantry. |

HSN code and ITC-HS code for CNC router machines
The code for CNC router machines depends on the material the router is built to cut, which is wood and similar hard materials or stone, and for a woodworking router whether it carries out different types of machining operations and whether it changes tools automatically from a magazine. Choose the line that matches your machine:
- 84659200 (planing, milling or moulding (by cutting) machines) when the woodworking router only mills or routes, which is one type of machining operation, even if it has a tool changer.
- 84651000 (machines which can carry out different types of machining operations without tool change between such operations) when the woodworking machine carries out different types of machining operations, such as routing and drilling, with several heads and no tool change between them.
- 84652000 (machining centres) when the woodworking machine carries out different types of machining operations and changes tools automatically from a magazine in line with a machining program.
- 84649000 (other, within subheading 846490: machine-tools; for working stone, ceramics, concrete, asbestos-cement or like mineral materials or for cold working glass, (other than sawing, grinding or polishing machines)) when the router works stone by engraving, profiling and drilling and is not a sawing, grinding or polishing machine.
The tariff has separate machine tool headings by material. A router built for wood, panel boards and hard plastics is a woodworking machine tool, and a router built for stone is a stone working machine tool. Inside woodworking, a router that only mills or routes is the planing, milling or moulding line, even when it has a tool changer, as rulings abroad held. A machine that carries out different types of work without tool change has its own line, and one that carries out different types of work with automatic tool change from a magazine is a machining centre. No official text found settles whether a router built for aluminium composite panel is a woodworking or a metal working machine, or which stone line a stone router takes.
In India the GST HSN code and the export ITC-HS code come from the same nomenclature. A GST invoice needs only the first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover; the export shipping bill carries the full 8-digit ITC-HS line. The classification is shown here; the applicable GST rate is not. Official source.
A classification is a fact any lookup can give you. The correct code still does not tell you which countries are buying CNC router machines right now, what duty each of them charges on the Indian line, or whether that demand is growing or fading. Those answers come from trade data, not from a code table, and they decide whether a market is worth entering. diipl's free Market Research Report answers them for your machine.

Buying a CNC router machine in India
- Ask for a tax invoice that lists the machine and each supplied accessory, such as the vacuum pump, dust extractor and drilling block, with serial numbers.
- Prepare the site before delivery: a flat concrete floor away from expansion cracks, three-phase power with proper earthing, compressed air for the tool changer, and a dust extractor with ducting. Ask the maker for a layout and foundation drawing.
- Installation and commissioning should end with a test run on your own material and part, with the result measured and written down.
- Training should cover the operator and the person who prepares programs: CAM and nesting software, tool offsets, vacuum table care and daily cleaning.
- Ask for the list of wear parts held in stock, such as collets, filters, spoilboards and sensors, who repairs a spindle, and how fast an engineer attends a breakdown.
- Check the gate, door and crane access at your site against the packed size and weight of the gantry and table, and confirm who unloads and positions the machine.
Buying from Indian CNC router machine exporters
- Agree the Incoterm in writing, and ask early for crate sizes and gross weight so the freight forwarder can plan, because a router is a heavy, bulky load.
- State your supply in words: three-phase or single-phase, the mains voltage, and fifty or sixty cycles. Ask for the spindle inverter, vacuum pump and dust extractor motors to be wired for it, with a transformer if needed.
- For the European Union, ask for the declaration of conformity, the technical file and a manual in your language, and ask which safety standard for numerically controlled routing machines was followed. For North America, check the guarding and ask whether the electrical panel carries a listing or label accepted at the plant.
- Ask for a Certificate of Origin and a packing list that names the serial numbers of the spindle, controller and vacuum pump.
- Ask for a first spare kit with the shipment (collets, filters, belts, sensors), remote diagnosis by video call, and an engineer visit for commissioning.
- Ask how the rails, spindle and control cabinet are wrapped against moisture and shock, and that the crate marks the lifting points.
Standards and certifications for CNC router machines
CNC Router Machines for each market must meet that market's rules. diipl confirms the certifications your market needs before any meeting. Each requirement below links to its official source.
| Indian standard or rule | What it covers | Official source |
|---|---|---|
| IS 18057 (Part 3):2023Woodworking Machines Safety Part 3: Numerically Controlled NC Boring and Routing Machines | The BIS title covers numerically controlled boring and routing machines for woodworking. BIS lists it as identical under dual numbering to ISO 19085-3 (2017 edition). | View source |
| Export requirement | Region | What it means | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|
| EN ISO 19085-3:2021, safety of NC boring and routing machines | European Union | The catalogue record lists the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC under directives or regulations. The standard covers numerically controlled boring, routing and combined machines capable of continuous production use, including add-on sawing, sanding, assembling or dowel-inserting units, workpiece clamping and automatic tool change devices. It does not apply to single-spindle hand-fed or integrated-fed routing machines, and it excludes integrated loading and unloading systems such as robots and a single machine used as part of a line, so ask how an automatic loader or unloader was assessed. | View source |
| Annex I machinery categories, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 | European Union | Annex I Part B names woodworking items such as circular saws, hand-fed surface planing machinery, thicknessers, band-saws, combined machinery, hand-fed tenoning machinery, hand-fed vertical spindle moulding machinery and portable chainsaws. No numerically controlled router or boring machine is named in Annex I, so ask the maker which conformity route it followed and what its declaration of conformity cites. | View source |
| Workplace machine guarding rule (29 CFR 1910.212) | North America | The rule says one or more methods of machine guarding must protect the operator and other employees from hazards such as point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks, and that machines designed for a fixed location must be securely anchored. Ask the maker how the guards, enclosure and anchoring on a router meet it. | View source |

CNC Router Machine: frequently asked questions
Who makes CNC router machines in India?
diipl does not publish maker names. Tell diipl the board size, materials, tool changer and daily output you need. diipl then shortlists an Indian factory whose GSTIN is verified and whose plant has passed a capacity audit, checks its Importer Exporter Code and the certificates your market asks for, and sets up a direct meeting. For a router the audit includes a vacuum hold-down test and a measured test cut.
Which table size, spindle power and tool changer should I ask for in a CNC router machine?
Start from your biggest board and your busiest job. One maker's panel router has a 1500 by 3000 mm table with 200 mm of Z travel and a 9 kW spindle as standard, with other table sizes as options. Pick a linear tool changer if jobs use few tools, or a disc changer if they use many. Ask for a test cut on your own material.
Which standards or certifications apply to CNC router machines?
In India, IS 18057 (Part 3):2023 is the BIS safety standard for numerically controlled boring and routing machines for woodworking, and BIS lists it as identical under dual numbering to ISO 19085-3 (2017 edition). Ask the maker how its guards, emergency stops and electrical panel follow it. Buyers abroad add their own rules, such as CE marking in the European Union. diipl lists only standards it has confirmed.
What is the HSN code for CNC router machines?
The code for CNC router machines depends on the material the router is built to cut, which is wood and similar hard materials or stone, and for a woodworking router whether it carries out different types of machining operations and whether it changes tools automatically from a magazine: 84659200 when the woodworking router only mills or routes, which is one type of machining operation, even if it has a tool changer; 84651000 when the woodworking machine carries out different types of machining operations, such as routing and drilling, with several heads and no tool change between them; 84652000 when the woodworking machine carries out different types of machining operations and changes tools automatically from a magazine in line with a machining program; 84649000 when the router works stone by engraving, profiling and drilling and is not a sawing, grinding or polishing machine. The export shipping bill carries the full 8-digit line and a GST invoice its first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover, so confirm the line for your exact machine before you file. The HS code finder lists every 8-digit line.
Can Indian manufacturers export CNC router machines?
Yes, if the machine meets the rules of the buyer's region. A buyer in the European Union asks for CE marking and the conformity papers behind it, and the Machinery Regulation applies from 20 January 2027. Other regions apply their own workplace and electrical rules. Every buyer needs the mains voltage and frequency matched, a manual in their language and a first spare kit, usually with commissioning by video or an engineer visit.
Which industries buy CNC router machines?
Furniture, kitchen and wardrobe factories use them to cut and drill board parts. Sign, display and cladding fabricators cut acrylic, PVC board and aluminium composite panel. Joinery and carving workshops shape solid wood, legs and columns. Stone workshops engrave and profile slabs. Each buyer type needs a different table size, spindle and hold-down.
I manufacture CNC router machines. How do I find verified buyers?
diipl studies which buyer groups need routers, such as panel furniture plants, sign shops and stone workshops, and in which regions. It runs outreach to them, then confirms who truly needs a machine, has the funds, can decide and wants it soon, before a direct meeting. Your company name stays off the page. Keep a demonstration machine and sample cuts ready for the meeting.
Should I choose a linear or a disc tool changer on a CNC router?
One maker says a linear magazine typically holds 6 to 12 tools and suits small to medium workshops and cabinet makers, while a disc (carousel) magazine typically holds 8 to 16 or more and suits medium and large factories running long, many-tool jobs. The same maker lists a tool change of 0.8 to 3 seconds, depending on the magazine type. Count the tools your longest job needs, then choose the magazine that covers them.
How much vacuum airflow does a nesting table need?
One pump maker gives 5.5 cubic feet per minute of airflow for each square foot of spoilboard or nested table, as an estimate. That is 176 cubic feet per minute for a table of four by eight feet (32 square feet) and 275 for five by ten feet (50 square feet), and its chart assumes operation at sea level. Ask whether the pump is a blower or a rotary vane pump, and how many zones the table has.
Which materials can a CNC router cut?
One maker lists solid wood, MDF, plywood, acrylic and foam, with plastics also possible. Aluminium composite panel is cut for cladding and signage. Stone is cut on a stone router, often with a water-cooled spindle and diamond tools. Tell the maker every material and its thickness, because the cutter, spindle power and hold-down are chosen from them.
What should be ready at my plant before a CNC router arrives?
Put lighting, dust extraction, compressed air and power lines in place before the machine arrives, and have the maker's engineer on site on the day the electrician connects it. Keep the machine away from floor expansion cracks and level it on its pads without twisting the bed. Have spare cutters, collets and measuring tools at hand for commissioning.
