What is a commercial plasma cutting machine?
A plasma cutting machine cuts electrically conductive metal with a narrow jet of hot, ionised gas. A power source sends current through a gas, such as air, nitrogen or oxygen, that is forced through a small nozzle in a torch. The gas turns to plasma, melts the metal and clears it out of the cut. It cuts copper, brass, aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel, and it is forgiving of oxidised and imperfect plate. A hand-held machine is guided by the operator. A CNC machine carries the torch over a table on a gantry, with a height control, a gas console and software that turns a drawing into a cutting path.
The machines on this page are commercial and industrial plasma cutters, from hand-held power sources to CNC gantry tables; small hobby and home-use plasma cutters are not covered.
How diipl verifies plasma cutting machine manufacturers
diipl checks every plasma cutting machine manufacturer before a buyer meets them. Every seller is GSTIN verified and capacity audited. IEC and the certifications your product and market need (ISO, CE, REACH, BIS) are confirmed before any meeting; Certificate of Origin and EIC inspection are arranged per shipment where required.
For plasma cutting machines, the capacity audit also covers:
- A trial plate cut in your metal and thickness while you watch, then measured for edge angle, dross, hole roundness and part size against your drawing
- Nameplates on the plasma power source, gas console and torch on the shop floor compared with the offer: make, current rating and serial numbers
- Gantry squareness, rail alignment and drive backlash measured with the factory's own gauges, with a positioning test report for the full table length
- The torch height control working on a plate that is not perfectly flat, and the torch collision protection tested
- A finished cutting table with its water tank or fume extraction, an assembly bay with a trial run area, and a stock of electrodes, nozzles and shields
We match your requirement to a manufacturer that has passed these checks and arrange a direct meeting.
Types of plasma cutting machines we cover
Indian plasma cutting machine manufacturers on the diipl bench build these commercial and industrial types.
| Type | Typical buyers |
|---|---|
| Hand-held plasma cutting machine (manual) | Repair and maintenance crews, shipyard and structural steel workers, and fabrication shops cutting by hand |
| Compact CNC plasma cutting machine | Small fabrication shops and maintenance and repair shops |
| Gantry CNC plasma cutting table (water or downdraft) | Job shops, structural steel and plate fabricators, and equipment makers cutting repeat parts |
| Heavy-duty plasma and oxy-fuel gantry (CNC) | Steel industry companies and heavy plate fabricators |
| CNC plasma bevel cutting machine | Fabricators who weld thick plate, such as pressure vessel, structural steel and shipbuilding firms |
Hand-held plasma cutting machine (manual)
A manual machine. An inverter power source feeds a hand torch, usually with compressed air as the plasma gas, and the operator guides the cut by hand. It needs mains power from the supply line or a generator, plus compressed air from a compressor or a bottle. Choose it for repair, site work and one-off cuts where CNC repeatability is not needed.
Compact CNC plasma cutting machine
A small CNC machine with its own built-in control, fitted with a plasma torch, an oxy-fuel torch or both. One maker's compact model covers a cutting area of 3,100 by 1,500 mm, cuts mild steel or aluminium up to 20 mm and stainless steel up to 15 mm with plasma, and can be taken apart and moved to a remote job site. Choose it for small shops, maintenance and site work that needs CNC shapes.
Gantry CNC plasma cutting table (water or downdraft)
A common production machine for plate. A gantry bridge runs on rails along a cutting table and carries the torch, with a power source, an automatic gas mixer or console, a CNC controller, a torch height control and drives for the motion. The table is either a water table or a downdraft table. Choose it when plate size, thickness and daily volume justify a fixed machine.
Heavy-duty plasma and oxy-fuel gantry (CNC)
A stiff, wide CNC gantry that carries a plasma torch together with oxy-fuel torches, so a plate can go to the process that suits its thickness. One maker's range comes in track widths from 3,100 to 10,100 mm, with up to 12 tool carriers and oxy-fuel cutting up to 300 mm. Choose it for heavy plate work in the steel industry.
CNC plasma bevel cutting machine
A CNC plasma machine fitted with a swivelling bevel head that cuts angled edges for weld preparation, such as V, A and top-Y bevels. One maker's gantry bevel head covers angles from 0 to 50 degrees on either side. Choose it when you prepare plate edges for welding and want the bevel cut on the same table as the part.
What to specify when buying a plasma cutting machine
A clear plasma cutting machine specification gets you comparable offers and a faster meeting. Share these points with diipl and we match them to the right manufacturer.
| What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Plasma power source output current | Current sets the thickness you can cut. One maker's hand-held range has maximum output currents of 30 to 125 A, with a recommended cut of 8 to 38 mm. Severance is higher, so work from the recommended figure. |
| Recommended cut, severance and pierce limits on a CNC machine | Pierce capacity is lower than severance capacity. One maker's three mechanized ratings list optimal cut quality at 3 to 35, 3 to 45 and 3 to 50 mm, with pierce limits of 40, 50 and 64 mm. |
| Cutting area, rail length and number of tool stations | Plate size sets the table. Rail can usually be added later, but a built machine cannot be made wider. Each extra torch, marker or bevel station takes cross-cut space on the gantry; most bevel stations take 24 to 36 inches. |
| Table type: water table or downdraft table | A water table gives very good fume control and less warping on thin plate, but rusts and can freeze. A downdraft table gives better cut quality on steel and easier cleaning, but needs a blower, and sometimes a filter. |
| Fume extraction airflow for a downdraft table | One maker says an entry-level 4 by 4 machine running a plasma system of 100 A or less needs about 3,200 to 3,600 cubic feet per minute. Ask the airflow, the filter type and where the exhaust goes. |
| Torch height control and data link to the power source | Ask whether the height control works on arc voltage and whether the CNC sends cutting data straight to the power source and gas console, so settings are applied automatically. |
| Plasma gas and gas console | The plasma gas can be air, nitrogen, oxygen or argon. Ask which gas each of your metals and thicknesses needs, whether an automatic gas console is included, and whether you will use cylinders, bulk gas or a compressor. |
| Gantry drive, rack and rail type | The drive decides how true the cut stays at speed. One maker's gantry uses AC servo drives with rack and pinion, double ball rail systems for the tool carriers and hardened drive pinions. Ask for the drive and rail type. |
| CNC controller and nesting software | Ask what the controller reads and what software is included. Nesting software lays parts out on the plate and, depending on the package, offers collision avoidance, chain cutting, bridge cutting and common line cutting. |
| Consumable life and local stock of torch parts | Torch parts wear. One maker reports its 300 A mild steel process on 20 mm plate staying in ISO 9013 Range 3 for nearly its whole life of 1,368 cuts of 20 seconds. Ask for consumable life on your thickness. |
| Duty cycle and power supply | One maker rates the plasma units on its compact CNC machine at an 80 percent duty cycle, on a 220 V single-phase supply. Ask the duty cycle at your cutting current and match the supply to your plant. |
| Bevel head angle range and bevel types | If you prepare edges for welding, ask which bevel types the head can cut and the angle range. One maker's gantry head covers A, V and top-Y bevels from 0 to 50 degrees on either side. |
| Cut quality class under ISO 9013 | ISO 9013 classifies thermal cuts and covers plasma cuts from 0.5 to 150 mm. It applies when a drawing or delivery condition refers to it, so state the class you need. |
| Kerf, small holes and fine detail | One maker puts plasma kerf at 1.5 mm on very thin metal, wider on thick plate, and says a laser can be the better option for extremely fine features or small holes. Test your smallest holes. |

HSN code and ITC-HS code for plasma cutting machines
Plasma cutting machines are classified under ITC-HS 84564000 (operated by plasma arc processes), within HS subheading 845640 (machine tools; for working any material by removal of material; operated by plasma arc processes). The 6-digit subheading is the same in every country that uses the Harmonized System; the 8-digit ITC-HS line is the one India files.
In India the GST HSN code and the export ITC-HS code come from the same nomenclature. A GST invoice needs only the first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover; the export shipping bill carries the full 8-digit ITC-HS line. The classification is shown here; the applicable GST rate is not. Official source.

Your opportunity
Indian plasma cutting machine makers already ship this line abroad. diipl finds the markets where your machine can win and generates the verified buyers there.
A classification is a fact any lookup can give you. The correct code still does not tell you which countries are buying plasma cutting machines right now, what duty each of them charges on the Indian line, or whether that demand is growing or fading. Those answers come from trade data, not from a code table, and they decide whether a market is worth entering. diipl's free Market Research Report answers them for your machine.

Buying a plasma cutting machine in India
- Ask for a GST invoice that shows the serial numbers of the machine and of the plasma power source.
- Put installation in writing: who levels the table and rails, who brings the power connection, the air or gas lines and the water tank or fume duct, and that a trial plate is cut in your metal before sign-off.
- Train your operator and programmer at your site on loading drawings, nesting, cut charts, torch part changes and safe use. Allow for noise, glare and fume protection for operators too, since the process needs it.
- Ask how quickly a service engineer can reach you, which torch parts the factory stocks (electrodes, nozzles, shields), and whether it can diagnose the CNC and the power source remotely.
- Confirm what the offer includes: power source, gas console, torch height control, nesting software, table, fume extraction or water tank, and any air compressor.
- A large gantry usually arrives in sections, so agree unloading, crane access and the rail foundation, and ask how many weeks pass between order and dispatch.
Buying from Indian plasma cutting machine exporters
- Fix the Incoterm in the contract (FOB and CIF are common) and say who pays for transport, insurance and unloading at your yard.
- Send your plant's supply details in writing: voltage, frequency and whether it is single or three phase, so the plasma power source, drives and control cabinet are built to suit. Add your plate grades and thickest cut.
- Into the European Union, a plasma power source should arrive with CE marking and a declaration naming the Low Voltage and EMC directives, and the gantry should be covered as machinery. Other regions have their own rules, so check them before ordering.
- Request a test cut report: a sample plate in your metal and thickness, with the cut chart used (current, gas, speed and torch height).
- Settle where the plasma gas and compressed air will come from at your site, and whether the machine is set up for the gas you can buy locally.
- Include a starter kit of electrodes, nozzles and shields for the first year, remote support for the CNC software, and export crating that keeps rails straight and protects the electronics.
Standards and certifications for plasma cutting machines
Plasma Cutting Machines for each market must meet that market's rules. diipl confirms the certifications your market needs before any meeting. Each requirement below links to its official source.
| Indian standard or rule | What it covers | Official source |
|---|---|---|
| IS 16593 (Part 1):2024Arc Welding Equipment Part 1: Welding Power Sources | Indian adoption of IEC 60974-1:2021 under dual numbering, identical in content. It covers the power source, not the whole cutting table. Ask the maker whether the plasma power source is built and tested to it. | View source |
| IS 16593 (Part 8):2023Arc welding equipment Part 8: Gas consoles for welding and plasma cutting systems (First Revision) | Indian adoption of IEC 60974-8:2021 under dual numbering. Relevant when the machine has an automatic gas console for the plasma gases. Ask whether the console follows it. | View source |
| Export requirement | Region | What it means | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|
| CE marking of the plasma power source under the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU | European Union | The Low Voltage Directive covers electrical equipment with an input or output of 50 to 1000 V AC or 75 to 1500 V DC. The manufacturer alone assesses conformity, CE marking can be applied only once testing and that assessment are done, and voluntary certificates do not prove compliance. Ask whether the power source is declared under it, and ask for the EMC declaration too. | View source |
| CE marking of the CNC gantry as machinery under Directive 2006/42/EC and Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 | European Union | A CNC gantry with powered moving axes is machinery under the Regulation's definition. Annex I of the Regulation, its higher-risk list, does not name plasma cutting machines. Ask which conformity procedure the maker followed for the gantry and which machinery rules its declaration of conformity cites. | View source |
| IEC 60974-1:2021 arc welding equipment, welding power sources | International | Edition 6.0, published 2021. It specifies safety and performance requirements of welding power sources and plasma cutting systems for industrial and professional use, supplied at up to 1000 V. IEC lists a stability date of 2026, so ask which edition the maker follows. | View source |

Plasma Cutting Machine: frequently asked questions
Who makes plasma cutting machines in India?
diipl does not list maker names. Share your thickest plate, the metals you cut, the table size and your daily volume. diipl then shortlists a factory whose GSTIN is verified and whose floor has been audited for this machine: a live test cut on your plate, the gantry and torch height control at work, and the table and fume system fitted. Export papers, such as its Importer Exporter Code, are checked, and a first meeting follows.
Which plate thickness, table size and power source rating should I ask for?
Start from your thickest plate and the metals you cut, then fix the table size and the number of tool stations. One maker's hand-held range has maximum output currents from 30 to 125 A, with a recommended cut of 8 to 38 mm, and its mechanized pierce limit is below its severance limit. Then settle the table type, height control, gas console and software, and ask for a test cut on your own plate.
Which standards or certifications apply to plasma cutting machines?
The Indian Standard for welding power sources is IS 16593 (Part 1), identical to IEC 60974-1, and Part 8 covers gas consoles for welding and plasma cutting systems. For cut quality, ISO 9013 classifies plasma cuts from 0.5 to 150 mm, but it applies only when your drawing or order refers to it. Ask the maker which of these its machine is tested to.
What is the HSN code for plasma cutting machines?
Plasma Cutting Machines are classified under ITC-HS 84564000 (operated by plasma arc processes), within HS subheading 845640. The export shipping bill carries this full 8-digit line; a GST invoice needs only its first 4 or 6 digits, depending on your turnover. Confirm the 8-digit line against your exact machine before you file.
Can Indian manufacturers export plasma cutting machines?
Yes, when the papers match the market. For the European Union, the plasma power source needs a declaration under the Low Voltage and EMC directives, the CNC gantry is treated as machinery, and CE marking can be applied only after testing and conformity assessment. For other regions, check the local rules before you quote, and match supply voltage and frequency to the buyer's plant.
Which industries buy plasma cutting machines?
Plate fabrication and structural steel, pressure vessel makers, shipbuilding, heavy equipment makers, steel service centres and job shops, agricultural and mining equipment makers, and pipeline and refinery repair teams all cut metal with plasma. Hand-held machines serve repair and site work; CNC tables serve repeat plate cutting.
I make plasma cutting machines. How do I find verified buyers?
diipl studies which fabricators, yards and equipment makers cut enough plate to need your machine, and in which regions, then reaches out to them. Each interested buyer is screened for a real requirement, budget, decision authority and timing before an introduction. Your factory name and phone numbers stay off the page. Keep sample cut plates and cut reports ready, since a cut part shows a buyer what the machine can do.
Should I choose a water table or a downdraft table?
One maker lists very good fume control, less warping on thin plate and better edge metallurgy on some stainless steel for a water table, against rust, freezing, and rough edges if water splashes on the part. A downdraft table gives better cut quality on steel and easier cleaning, but needs a blower, and a filter where fumes cannot be vented outside. Choose by metal, climate and who will maintain it.
When is plasma a better choice than oxy-fuel cutting?
One maker states that oxy-fuel can only cut mild steel and wrought iron that is free of rust or paint, and is generally used on metal thicker than 50 mm, while plasma can cut nearly any metal, needs no fuel gas and needs no preheating. It also states that plasma is at least twice as fast on metal up to 25 mm.
Can one plasma machine cut stainless steel and aluminium as well as mild steel?
Yes, plasma cuts conductive metals, but capacity differs by metal. One compact CNC machine lists up to 20 mm in mild steel or aluminium and up to 15 mm in stainless steel. Gas settings can also differ by metal, so ask for a cut chart for each metal and thickness you use, and a test cut in each.
Can a CNC plasma table also cut pipe and tube?
Some gantry machines take an add-on pipe and tube unit, with chucks, support carts and offline software for vertical and bevel cutting. One maker's add-on lists bevel cutting on round pipe and vertical cutting on square or rectangular tube. Size limits vary by machine and model. Ask the pipe diameter, wall thickness and length you need, and whether bevels on pipe are included.
